3 die at KATH due to strike

Three patients at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) are reported dead due to the strike by consultants at the hospital.
Emergency cases which were hitherto attended to by the consultants are also being turned away.
According to the junior doctors at KATH, it is unethical for them to attend to patients without the supervision of the consultants.
Citi News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent, Betty Ohemaa Agyeman, who has been monitoring the situation at the hospital reported that about four emergency cases which were brought to the hospital were turned away due to the absence of the consultants.
“They were turned away because there is no doctor to attend to them. About three dead bodies have also been conveyed to the hospital morgue from the Accident and Emergency Unit because there was no doctor to attend to them while they were on admission,” she explained.
The consultants at KATH have been on strike for over a week to back their demand for their nine-month outstanding allowances to be paid.
