Dream Team captain, John Mikel Obi has declared that they will not allow Germany shatter their dream of leaving Rio 2016 with a medal, even as he insisted that his desire is to win gold.
The Dream Team would only be guaranteed an Olympic medal should the team get past Germany today in Sao Paolo.
Mikel who scored Nigeria’s first goal against Denmark in the quarter final said yesterday that the Dream Team can not afford to surrender after the amazing run from the group, even in the midst of many challenges.
“With the problems we have had, getting to this stage is just absolutely amazing and we just have to keep going. We won’t allow Germany stop us,” Mikel said.
The Chelsea star said he would love to return to London with Olympic gold in his luggage.
“I hope to go back to Chelsea as the Olympic champion.  I came out here to do my best to help the team with the gold medal. That’s always been my objective. It’s my aim and the players all want the same.
“When you have a group of players all wanting to achieve the same thing, hopefully it will go well at the end. Hopefully the semifinal will go well  and then we will be in the final and win the gold medal.”
