The Flash and Supergirl Are Doing a Musical Crossover

The Flash, Supergirl
Greg Berlanti has heard your pleas for a musical episode of one of his superhero shows, especially considering the fact that they employ so many Broadway veterans and musically inclined actors, and he's delivering in a big way.
The Flash and Supergirl will have a musical crossover event in 2017, and no, you are not dreaming. With Broadway vets Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes and Glee star Grant Gustin on The Flash and Glee's Melissa Benoist and Broadway vets Jeremy Jordan and Laura Benanti on Supergirl—not to mention Arrow's John Barrowman and Legends of Tomorrow's Victor Garber—there is plenty of musical talent to go around.
"Yes, there will be a musical crossover. There's going to be a musical pair of episodes in the back half of the year between Supergirl and Flash," executive producer extraordinaire Berlanti announced at a panel discussing Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "We have a number of people who can sing across all the shows who will be making some very exciting appearances in the back half of the year."

While the tunes will likely be pre-existing songs, Berlanti said he's exploring the idea of writing one original song per episode. The idea came about mostly because of Berlanti's interest in musical theater. "I've probably been leading the charge myself," Berlanti said. "I think on all the shows we love to use the actors' talents as much as possible. ...My sense is we'll be very careful about how they break into song and it'll probably be an element of being in a character or characters' heads at the time."
Everything's still up in the air—including which characters from other superhero shows will be involved and which songs will be included—but since it's not happening until 2017, there's still a little time to figure that out. But Berlanti is "happy to take requests throughout the year" via Twitter, so get to requesting!
Stay tuned to find out what other superhero scoop the producers spilled, including the fact that one character in the Berlantiverse will come out, who The Flash's other big bad will be, where this year's Arrow flashbacks will take place, and more.
